ALL ABOUT LGBTQ+ BRUIN BOOK CLUB

Find community on and off the page! LGBTQ+ Bruin Book Club is a newly formed club dedicated to reading queer books. Open to all identities, we want to provide a safe space for anyone to enjoy reading while giving queer stories the focus they deserve. Whether you are queer, questioning, or a lover of queer fiction — join us and share a passion for reading queer stories amongst fellow peers!

P.S. We are most active on Discord so come join us there!

Join Our Leadership Team!

We are looking for Librarians and Junior Leaders for the 2024-2025 academic year!

Most of the Librarians will be graduating soon, but we want to see this club grow and thrive! We aim to announce and integrate the new leadership team by early May, so that we can pass on leadership of the club at our annual book swap in June!

Librarians will be responsible for running the club and will all have an equal say in decisions. Three Librarians will be signatories and therefore be responsible for working with SOLE, but we do not keep any other "hierarchy" otherwise. Those who do not wish to become a Librarian but are still interested in being on the leadership team can apply to be a Junior Leader.

Learn more about both roles on the application.

Note that there is no limit to how many Librarians or Junior Leaders we accept.

The application process is twofold. First is the written application (Google Form here!), and second is an interview with some or all of the current Librarians. The interview will be around 30 minutes long and is mostly to discuss what duties you would be interested in should you become a Librarian or Junior Leader. You will also be able to ask any questions about the position you are applying for.

Deadline for the written application is Sunday, April 21 at 11:59 PM.

OUR CURRENT READ!

Crush by Richard Siken

In this powerful collection of poems driven by panic and obsession, Siken writes with ferocity, and his reader hurtles unstoppably with him. His poetry is confessional, gay, savage, and charged with violent eroticism. Louise Glück hails the “cumulative, driving, apocalyptic power, [and] purgatorial recklessness” of Siken’s poems.

Crush, as described by Siken, is “three different versions of the same story. In the first they’re not in love. In the second they’re in love but someone dies. In the third the one that’s dead is back.”

⚠️ Please be safe while reading! Content warnings for the book include: homophobia, death, suicidal thoughts, suicide, violence, grief, blood, abuse, and self-harm.
